Can egg be included in the baby's diet?

Can egg be included in the baby's diet?

Egg is a very nutritious food, with a high contribution of vitamins B, A and D. However, it is not recommended to introduce it to a baby's diet so soon. When can it be included and how should it be prepared?

At what age can you eat egg?

If your baby is less than 7 months old, you can not give him an egg. In fact, it is currently tended to delay food diversification to prevent allergies in children. From that age onwards, the egg can be introduced in small doses gradually.

From 7 to 8 months

You may be given half extra fresh hard boiled egg yolk (no more than 7 days old). Mix with lunch or dinner, replacing meat or fish. You can grind it and stir it with the vegetables. If you like the child, you can give this ration a maximum of 2 times a week. Egg white is best left out, as it can produce allergies.

From 9 months to 1 year

At this age, the little one can eat the egg white. Replace the portion of animal protein by half a egg a couple of times a week. If you are sure that the egg is extra fresh, you can use other preparation in addition to making it hard, such as making an omelette with it. You can also use egg to give a cake, as long as the egg is well cooked. Avoid giving mousse, custard, meringue or eggs to the glass.

From 1 to 3 years

Up to 3 years old egg rations should be reduced because a dairy-based diet is given priority in young children.

You should continue to give 1 egg 1 or 2 times a week instead of meat or fish. Do not exceed the amount, since it is important to limit the protein intake in children, to prevent problems of childhood obesity.

In this period, your child can eat little eggs, as long as they are fresh, with no more than 7 days after positions. If you make custard or some mousse, you have to keep them at least 24 hours in the fridge.

What to do in case of allergies or a history of food allergies within the family circle? It is best to wait until the baby is one year old to introduce the egg. Check with your pediatrician, since egg allergy is common in children.
