Causes of dandruff

Causes of dandruff - Dandruffs rarely result in more serious conditions on your health, but dandruff can be very annoying.

Here are some factors that can cause the appearance of dandruff on the hair.

Dry skin.
Dry skin is the most common cause of dandruff. Dandruff due to dry skin is generally smaller and drier than dandruff caused by other conditions. Usually you can see symptoms and signs of dry skin on other parts of the scalp, for example on the hands and feet.

Irritation and seborrheic dermatitis or oily skin.
This condition also often leads to the appearance of dandruff. Symptoms that appear usually oily skin is red with white flakes or yellowish scales. Seborrhoeic dermatitis may affect other areas of the body rich in oil glands, such as eyebrows, side nose, breastbone, groin, and armpits.

Less shampooing.
If you lack hair washing, oil and also your scalp cells can accumulate and cause dandruff.

Eczema
This is a chronic inflammation that occurs in the skin. Eczema can make the scalp itch and also bring up the flake. In the UK, this condition is more common in children, and data from WHO suggest that this skin disease is also common in children in developing countries. But everyone can also experience it.

Psoriasis.
This is a condition in which dead and rough dead skin cells accumulate causing scaly skin. Psoriasis occurs when the immune system triggers many skin cells to grow in various parts of the body, including the scalp. People suffering from psoriasis tend to have dandruff hair.

Sensitive to some hair care products.
This can cause the scalp to become red, itchy, and scaly.
Malassezia fungal infections. Malassezia usually lives on the scalp without causing illness. But if it develops excessively, this fungus will cause irritation of the scalp. Irritation that occurs causes the growth of skin cells faster. Excess skin cells will die and stick to the hair, and eventually fall into the clothes as dandruff.

Risk factors that can increase dandruff production:

  • Male sex will increase the risk of having dandruff caused by the influence of male hormones.
  • Stress can trigger dandruff.
  • A person who is new to middle age is usually more at risk of dandruff.
  • Food also affects the appearance of dandruff in your hair. If you lack zinc (Zn), vitamin B or certain fats, you will be more susceptible to dandruff.
  • Certain diseases such as HIV or Parkinson's can make the sufferer dandruff.
  • Changes in the weather.
  • Oily hair and scalp, making it easier for someone to suffer from dandruff.
